Chief Operating Engineer
Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Our client has an immediate opening for an experienced Chief Operating Engineer. This position is responsible for managing, supervising, training, operating and maintaining the plant in a safe condition in accordance with the Technical Standards and Safety Act (TSSA). We are seeking a strong leader who can be responsible for the day-to-day operations.

Major Responsibilities

Accountable for safe and consistent production by maintaining adequate steam production, thermal oil and water supplies and maintenance of heaters and makeup air units in order to supply the plant’s energy requirements

Ensures smooth operation of the facility’s heat plant, ventilation equipment and water systems

Develops preventative maintenance program; identifies maintenance activities and priorities

Ensures high standards of work in a cost effective manner

Proven leadership and direction to all operating engineers with a focus on continuous improvement; high safety standards, objectives and measurements

Proactively reduces energy consumption

Undertakes capital projects to improve operating performance of the plant in consultation with the Maintenance Manager and Plant Manager

The Ideal Candidate Has

A valid 1st or 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certificate of Qualification in the Province of Ontario

A minimum of 10 years of work related experience

Minimum of 7 years supervisory experience

Thorough knowledge of PLC systems with ability to troubleshoot problems

Excellent presentation skills

Proven team leader/player, committed to professional excellence and high ethical standards
