The Software Product Manager is responsible for the product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including: gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with the hardware product manager, engineering, sales, marketing, and others to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The Software Product Manager's job also includes ensuring that the product supports the company's overall strategy and goals.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
· Managing the entire software product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities including defining and managing the software product roadmap
· Specifying market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and vendors.
· Specify functional product requirements with prioritized features and the corresponding business cases and usage scenarios and manage all pre-engineering activities that result in functional requirements that can be released to R&D for development.
· Optimize the development cycle to maximize utilization of development resources
· Assist in developing the company-wide go-to-market plan.
· Provide commercial and business knowledge by actively contributing at the business level on market trends, competition, and technology innovations
· Identify areas for R&D to explore that will result in product improvements
· Manage, lead, and/or assist with responses to requests for proposals
· Provide sales support as needed
· Stay current with new technologies and general industry trends
Minimum Qualifications
· Knowledgeable in technology and is naturally curious about technology
· Computer Science or Engineering degree. Business or marketing-related degrees may also be acceptable depending on candidate’s knowledge and understanding of technology
· 5 years of software product management experience
· Track record of executing complex projects and launching products
· Experience with agile software development
· Ability to forecast market opportunity, revenue, costs, and key business drivers
· Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
· Proven experience in customer and market research
· Excellent written and oral skills
· Solid understanding of cyber-security and privacy issues and landscape.
Desired Skills and Experience
· Proficiency with Adobe CS or other similar graphics packages
· Programming, database, and/or software architect experience
· Familiarity with mobile applications and technologies
· Utility industry experience is an asset, especially with respect to cyber-security
· Experience with pricing software services and products as well as software as a service
