Denzil has 42 years of experience as General Manager of two highly successful golf and country club operations.
For the past 28 years, Denzil Palmer served as the General Manager and Secretary of The Royal Montreal Golf Club. Founded in 1873, Royal Montreal is the oldest golf club in North America and recognized internationally as a leader in the Club Industry. Over 1500 Members enjoy 45 holes of golf, in-ground swimming and a full calendar of social activities in their gracious and spacious Clubhouse. Under Denzil’s leadership, the Club hosted several successful amateur and professional tournaments, including the Canadian Open in 1997, 2001 and 2014, as well as The Presidents Cup in 2007 - considered to be the most prestigious golf event ever held in Canada. In 2017, Denzil Palmer was elected an Honorary Life Member of The Royal Montreal Golf Club.
Following almost one decade in the Hotel Industry (commencing at Fairmont Chateau Laurier and ending at the flagship Holiday Inn Tower in London), Denzil was engaged as General Manager to launch the opening of Greenhills Country and City Clubs in London, Ontario. Over a 14-year period, he successfully developed both of these Member-oriented Clubs, which ultimately featured 27 holes of golf, 22 tennis courts (8 in a steel structure for year-round play), in-ground swimming, 2 handsome Clubhouses and a robust calendar of social and instructional programs to a full and highly satisfied roster of Members.
Denzil Palmer received the Club Manager of the Year Award in 1997. In 2017, he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Excellence in Club Management Awards in San Francisco. Denzil is only the third recipient of this Award in over 2 decades. Also in 2017, the Canadian Society of Club Managers (CSCM) presented Denzil with the President’s Award (the Society’s most prestigious Award), recognizing him as one of CSCM’s longest standing and highly regarded General Managers. At the same National Conference, Denzil Palmer was elected a CSCM Honorary Life Member.
