Lakelands Public Health is seeking a positive, engaging, and forward-thinking Associate Medical Officer of Health (AMOH) to join its senior leadership team, providing both medical and organizational leadership. Reporting to the Medical Officer of Health & CEO (MOH/CEO), the AMOH will offer leadership and direction to a multidisciplinary public health team for assigned programs and strategic projects, that protect and promote the health and well-being of residents in the Cities of Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, Northumberland, and Peterborough Counties, and Alderville, Curve Lake, and Hiawatha First Nations.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, the AMOH reports to the MOH/CEO and provides day-to-day leadership to assigned public health programs and their services. This is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on community health in a beautiful region, where outdoor and cultural activities abound, within a short trip to Toronto.



Key Competencies:

A collaborative medical leader able to provide leadership, contribute to organizational strategy, planning, priority-setting, and performance oversight, manage assigned programs, and provide content expertise to disease, and injury prevention, health equity and health promotion functions in a calm, ethical, and professional manner.

With a demonstrated ability to direct, motivate, and mentor staff within an interdisciplinary team, they provide forward and strategic thinking in program design and planning, evaluation, population health assessment, and emergency preparedness.

Strong clinical acumen as it relates to the scope of public health and preventive medicine.

An innovative thinker with an ability to negotiate and communicate complex ideas and information in concise, meaningful ways.

Able to identify opportunities to encourage greater integration of programs and activities and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders and partners across health systems.

Demonstrates an understanding of disease control, risk assessment and management, the framework of legislation, public health science, inter-sectoral relationships, government policy, and general executive direction.



The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Must be a physician licensable by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. A fellowship in Public Health and Preventive Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent training) is preferred.

Provincial AMOH compensation scheme grid with comprehensive benefits package and OMERS pension.
