Director of Care – Contract
Our client, an independent not-for-profit charitable organization operating a long-term care home, is seeking an experienced nurse leader to join their caring team on a Contract – may possibly flow into a permanent role.
Reporting to the Administrator, the
Director of Care is primarily responsible for the overall nursing and clinical care provided to residents.

An experienced management leader with a background in clinical nursing, a genuine understanding of, and commitment to, the clients being served, who is respectful, open to others, able to access support and guide the development of staff skills and knowledge, demonstrates a coaching approach, and can build staff’s commitment to the organizational mission and values.

A demonstrated ability to supervise and direct a diverse clinical staff providing various levels of nursing care, and to manage unanticipated events when they occur responding in a thoughtful, disciplined, collaborative, and proactive manner.

An operational knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Long-Term Care Homes Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Occupational Health, and Safety Act, etc.)

Demonstrated Management skills, including performance management, clinical education, problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution in a unionized environment. Experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds.

High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability; sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; a succinct and accurate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with residents, the public, staff, and external service providers.

A passion for leadership in education and training of teams and team members.

Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Competence in Ontario, and member in good standing, holding at minimum a general class license with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Additional qualifications in Gerontology an asset.

Five to ten years Nursing experience in a managerial/supervisory role in retirement homes, long-term care, complex care, rehabilitative care or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Ability to prioritize and work efficiently and accurately to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Capacity to create an environment conducive to the well-being of the residents and staff.
